We have a new opportunity for a Workplace Health & Safety Manager (APAC) in our leading global organisation.  Based in Mascot, Sydney but reporting to the Senior Director Health & Safety Global you will direct all Workplace Health, Safety and Environment (WHSE) activities across the APAC region being Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore.

About the Role

This critical position will work closely with the Operational Leadership, Human Resources, and other Functional Support Teams to develop and maintain an effective health, safety, and environmental management system across APAC.

A core focus of this position will be enabling and empowering managers and employees to actively practice and promote WHSE policies, procedures, and wellbeing initiatives while ensuring legislative compliance across multiple jurisdictions.

The role supports an APAC workforce of approximately 2,000 employees and contributes to both regional and global health and safety priorities.

Key Accountabilities:

Workplace Health & Safety Management

  • Act as the APAC subject matter expert for:

    • WHSE Safety and Risk Management Programs

    • Injury Prevention

    • Drug and Alcohol Management Programs

    • Return to Work and Injury Management

    • Business Continuity

  • Ensure compliance with Workplace Health & Safety legislation across Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore.

  • Maintain and ensure adherence to WHSE practices, policies, and procedures.

Risk, Compliance, and Reporting

  • Undertake WHSE reporting and compliance requirements, including:

    • WHSE system maintenance

    • Risk management controls

    • Audits

    • Annual WHSE planning

  • Analyse WHSE trends and develop appropriate responses and initiatives.

  • Provide regular reporting to the APAC HR Director and Senior Leadership Team.

Advisory and Capability Building

  • Provide advice and support to managers and leaders on WHSE matters.

  • Support and guide Health & Safety Committees, Health & Safety Representatives, first aiders, and fire wardens.

  • Enhance leadership, management, and employee capability in WHSE responsibilities.

  • Provide a framework for continuous improvement and WHSE awareness across the workforce.

  • Design and deliver WHSE training programs aligned to business needs.

Incident, Injury, and Recovery Management

  • Manage safety issues and investigate incidents to minimise risk and hazards.

  • Support managers in implementing recovery and return-to-work plans.

  • Provide advice and assistance to the Return to Work Coordinator during claims management.

  • Support the development of individual return-to-work plans as required.

  • Oversee Workers Compensation vendor activity and collaborate with internal stakeholders

  • Manage the annual APAC Flu program.

  • Participate in wellbeing initiatives led by the HR team.

Environmental and Business Continuity Support

  • Support managers with local Environmental Management Plans (EMP).

  • Provide advice on environmental legal compliance across APAC.

  • Support Global Health and Safety projects and business continuity initiatives.

Leadership and Influence

  • Participate in Area Leadership meetings.

  • Build trust and credibility with Operations teams.

  • Provide WHSE advice across APAC projects and initiatives, including facilities improvements.

What we’re looking for

  • Extensive experience providing WHSE advice to managers and leaders in a multinational and/or multi-site, fast-paced environment.

  • Experience delivering WHS improvement initiatives with experience managing work-related and non-work-related injuries being advantageous.

  • Experience with WHS and injury management reporting, including analysis and business recommendations

  • Understanding of workers compensation insurance

  • Ability to travel regularly to operational locations

Besides the above we are looking for a charismatic leader who can negotiate, influence and build trust and confidence with operational teams. As you will be working across a multidisciplinary workforce, including hourly employees and senior leaders you will need to be an effective communicator (written, verbal and presentation skills) who can bring people on the workplace health and safety journey with them.

To be successful in this role you will need to take a pragmatic and commercial approach to address hazards and incidents, be able to work independently and be self-motivated as you will need to be able to travel to different locations on a regular basis.
