Vehicle Technician - ACL, Bathgate

Monday-Friday, Full-time, Permanent

The role of Vehicle Technician consists of:

  • Proficiency in testing, diagnosing, repairing, and servicing vehicles to meet high-quality standards and specified criteria.

  • Thoroughly inspect vehicles, identify defects, and provide detailed reports on impending failures in-vehicle components or systems.

  • Technicians are responsible for replacing worn, damaged, or faulty tires, adhering to technical standards and work instructions.

  • Competence in using various tools essential for the job and the ability to work on a wide range of vehicle makes and models.

  • Adherence to relevant manufacturer procedures and processes.

  • Skill in assessing customer requirements through effective communication, ensuring the vehicle's safety and roadworthiness before it leaves the depot.

  • Accurate identification of faulty components, following technical standards and work instructions.

  • Necessary training and certification to conduct MOT inspections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to meeting the vehicle off-road (VOR) targets.

  • Ensure a top-notch customer service experience is delivered.

  • Possess a comprehensive knowledge of external third-party suppliers to expedite vehicle repairs, thus increasing the availability of rental vehicles.

  • Foster strong working relationships with colleagues across the organization.

  • Aid in managing the parts ordering system for fleet repairs.

  • Support all necessary repairs within the facility, including collaboration with external suppliers.

  • Take responsibility for gathering accurate customer information and conveying it to the ACL Workshop Development Manager, workshop technicians, and administrative staff.

Education & Professional Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid UK driver's license

  • Strong customer service orientation

  • Ability to effectively communicate and explain necessary vehicle maintenance and repair work to customers

  • Automotive qualification of at least an IMI Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or its equivalent, such as City & Guilds

  • MOT certification for vehicles in class 4, 5, and 7

Work experience / background:

  • Embrace a team-oriented mindset while maintaining a competitive spirit.

  • Prior experience in either a mobile or workshop setting.

  • Proficient in handling various types of commercial vehicles and skilled at multitasking with different tasks.

  • A strong commitment to customer satisfaction.

  • Demonstrates a positive and dedicated work attitude.

  • Collaborates effectively within a team environment.

Technical / business skills & knowledge:

  • Understanding of financial matters

  • Capacity to make prompt decisions while considering all relevant factors

  • Aid in maintaining processes or functions with effectiveness and efficiency

  • Demonstrated proficiency in both written and verbal communication

  • Collaborative teamwork to enhance overall performance

  • Capable of working as part of a motivated team and consistently improving performance

  • Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Ability to anticipate and plan for the future

  • Experience working with an IDS machine
