Due to a recent promotion we now have an opportunity for an Airport Manager to oversee all operations for our Avis and Budget brands at the Auckland Airport. 

As the largest Airport within New Zealand for both Avis and Budget brands this role is looking for a confident leader who can manage operational services and distribution.

About the role:

As Airport Manager you will be responsible for the overall management and performance of the airport rental location. You will ensure the delivery of exceptional customer service, efficient fleet and operational management, and strong commercial performance.

You will also lead and develop the team while maintaining high operational standards in a fast-paced airport environment. Independent judgment will need to be exercised as you will be making the majority of daily decisions regarding the service and distribution operations at the Auckland Airport.

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Operational Management

  • Oversee the daily operations of the airport branch, ensuring smooth and efficient service delivery.

  • Manage counter, customer service, and vehicle logistics operations.

  • Ensure company policies, procedures, and safety standards are consistently followed.

  • Monitor operational performance and implement improvements where required.

Customer Experience

  • Ensure all customers receive a premium and seamless rental experience.

  • Resolve customer concerns and escalations promptly and professionally.

  • Promote and support digital and premium service offerings.

Team Leadership

  • Recruit, train, coach, and develop branch team members.

  • Foster a positive, high-performance team and sales culture.

  • Manage staff scheduling to meet operational demands and peak travel periods.

  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback.

  • Ensure performance standards are met; and carry out Performance Improvement Processes and or Disciplinary processes should policies and standards not be adhered to.

Fleet Management

  • Ensure optimal vehicle availability and utilisation.

  • Oversee vehicle movement, preparation, and maintenance coordination.

  • Monitor fleet quality standards and ensure vehicles meet brand presentation expectations.

Financial & Commercial Performance

  • Achieve revenue, utilisation, and profitability targets.

  • Monitor branch financial performance including costs, productivity, and sales performance.

  • Identify opportunities to grow revenue and improve operational efficiency.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with all airport regulations, company policies, and legal requirements.

  • Maintain workplace health and safety standards for staff and customers.

  • Ensure all documentation, reporting, and audits are completed accurately and on time.

  • Adhere to and support Company policies and practices including OH&S, Diversity and Inclusion and those listed on the Code of Conduct.

To be successful in this role:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification

  • Proven successful experience at a senior level preferably in a vehicle rental or related industry

  • Experience with performance management and disciplinary processes.

  • Proven business knowledge to successfully operate a location assignment

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to manage and motivate staff in a team environment

  • Creative problem-solving skills.

  • Experience working in a unionised environment/s and managing employee relations is advantageous

  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Further to the above we are looking for a strong leader who is driven by service excellence and passion for motivating a talented team. You will also have strong sales skills to seek new business, well developed judgment and problem solving skills and the ability to work independently.
